Curious Club — Chapter One

A handmade bag. A little bit of mystery. And a lot of trust.

Curious Club is a new little corner of WhereBilly for the ideas in my head that don’t necessarily want to become earrings or illustrations.

Each chapter begins with one idea, explored through whatever medium I feel curious about at the time.

For Chapter One, that idea became a handmade fabric bag.

I design the shape, choose the fabrics, trace and cut every piece, make the ruffles, sew the lining, install the zipper and put each bag together myself in small quantities.

But there is one part I’m keeping.

You won’t see the exact finished bag you’ll receive before it becomes yours.

You’ll know what I’m making.

You’ll see the fabrics.

You’ll see the process.

You’ll see more and more of Chapter One as it develops.

But the exact print placement, combination and little decisions that make your piece yours will be left to me.

That is the Curious Club part.

So… is it a blind box?

Not quite.

You are not paying $98 for a completely unknown object.

You already know you are receiving a handmade Curious Club bag and you’ll be able to follow its materials, construction, details and overall direction.

The surprise is in which version becomes yours.

Think of it less as choosing a product from a catalogue, and more as saying:

Okay Billy. You choose mine.

Why Curious Club?

I’ve spent years making across different mediums: jewellery, fabric, illustration, objects and whatever else catches my attention.

Curious Club gives those other ideas somewhere to go.

It is not about knowing every single detail before you buy.

It is for people who enjoy the way I make things enough to leave me a little room to play.

You still know what you are purchasing.

You’re just letting the artist keep the final few decisions.

And maybe that tiny leap of curiosity is the whole point.
